BAND HISTORY

NAMING THE BAND

After the first "fietsmandje" rehearsal at Jasper's, the band was named "Karel en de Elegasten", a pun in reference to a Dutch medieval text ("Karel ende Elegast") which had been part of school curriculum. As this pun went past 99,9 % of the rest of the world, it was clear a better name was needed.

Since they all lived in Amsterdam-Noord, which was a bore, they decided on "The Nored". A compass star was adapted as an appropriate logo to appear under this name, which they stuck to for a while.

Then Stan went to London. During a ride on the tube he came past the Mornington Crescent tube station. He liked this name a lot. On returning, he suggested it to the rest of the band. They agreed. The compass star remained, as it looked too good to drop it.
